About Us For the first time in its history, the West Indies School of Theology (founded in 1946) launched an extension campus outside of Trinidad. WIST-Barbados was launched at a special service on Sunday September 2, 2001 at The People’s Cathedral. For the first time in 55 years, persons with the call of God on their lives, who wanted to the trained in the ministry of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the West Indies, could do so in Barbados. At present the school offers the Diploma in Bible and Theology. Students are pursuing studies in the Bible, Theology, Hermeneutics, Homiletics, Prophecy, etc., while maintaining their full-time employments. Plans are already in the making for the expansions of the school to offer degree programs. The Administrative Committee responsible for the management of WIST-Barbados is as follows: Chairman Rev. Dr. Holmes Williams Classes are conducted on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays from 6:00p.m – 9:00p.m at The People’s Cathedral. Our History The West Indies School of Theology was founded in 1946 by Canadian Missionaries as an Institute for training of ministers of the Pentecostal Assemblies of Canada, West Indies District. The school was held originally at the Woodbrook Pentecostal Chapel and later, at the El Dorado Pentecostal Church. In 1954, the school found its home nestled in the 61/2 acre campus, Fourth Bridge, Maracas Valley, St. Joseph in Trinidad. WIST has expanded beyond the training of ministers to embrace the equipping of the five-fold ministry; preparation of lay people for ministry involvement, and personal Christian growth and development. Generally, the school attracts students of various evangelical backgrounds. In 1973, the leadership of WIST changed from the Canadian Missionaries to Caribbean Nationals. In 1970 the first Caribbean national appointed as President was Rev. Dennis White, from that time onwards, all Presidents have been WIST graduates. Most of the churches of the Pentecostal Assemblies of the West Indies are pastored by graduates of WIST; while others serve in various parts of the world. WIST continues to maintain the purity in teaching God’s word and equipping men and women to affect the kingdom of God. Our Location WIST (Barbados Chapter) is located at Bishop’s Court Hill on the campus of the People’s Cathedral School. Five minutes from the capital, Bridgetown and 20 minutes from the Grantley Adams Int’l Airport. Our Affiliation The West Indies school of Theology is sponsored by the Pentecostal Assemblies of the West Indies, a church organization of over 210 churches throughout the English speaking Caribbean from Antigua in the North to Trinidad and Tobago in the South. WIST is a member of the Caribbean Evangelical Theological Association (CETA), formally Caribbean Association of Bible Colleges (CABC).
